Class 1 - Motors 1 Famous Inventors

william.jpgWilliam Sturgeon- Invented the electromagnet in 1825. His first electromagnet was a horseshoe - shaped piece of iron. That was wrapped with a coil few times. When a current passed through the coil the electromagnet was magnetized when it stopped it was De- magnetized.

external image oersted-1-sized.jpgHan Christian Oersted - He found the generation of a magnetic field by doing a electric current by a observation of a compass needle.This was the first time of a movement of electric current.

michael.jpgMichael Faraday- He did two experiments for the electromagnetic. A vertically wire moves in a circular orbiting around the magnet.

History Of Electric Motor

In the 1830's, Michael Faraday made a discovery that has made our work easier for all of us. While Michael Faraday was experimenting with magnets he found that moving a wire through a magnetic field would produce an electric current. This experiment is important because it led to the discovery of the electric motor and generators.

Advantages and Disadvantages:

Advantages: Low initial cost,long life,high efficiency, automated control, no fossil fuels,save labor cost,occupational safety.

Disadvantages: Have to pay for gas when there is a storm also when your car is broken. A another thing is potability,demand charges,speed control.

How it is use today:They are use for cars and household appliances

* Generator

*Cars

*Heaters

*Washing/drying machine

*Electric shooter

*Coil spinning,straw magnetism, electric magnetism

Personal Experience: Been on electric shooter , you kind of push yourself and twist the handle and you fly off . Been in cars use washers / dryers for cleaning. we use heaters for heat and warmth we would be cold in the winter if we didn't have heaters.
